Ice Hockey

Ice hockey is a world-widely popular contact team sport. It is played on ice, usually in a rink. Within such rink, two teams of skaters use their sticks for shooting a vulcanized rubber puck into their opponent's net to score points. This sport is known to be physical and fast-paced. The ice-hockey teams usually consist of six players each. Thus, in each team, there is one goaltender and five players who skate up and down the ice. The skaters are expected to try to take the puck in order to score a goal against their opposing team.

Ice hockey is most of all popular in Canada. It is also widely known in both central and eastern parts of Europe, Scandinavia, the United States and Russia. Being the official national winter sport of Canada, ice hockey enjoys an immense popularity.

North America's National Hockey League is known to be the highest level for men's ice hockey as well as the strongest professional ice hockey league in the whole world. Besides, there are other ice hockey federations in 76 countries worldwide.

All the ice hockey players, within certain restrictions, may re-direct the puck with any part of their bodies. Players cannot hold the puck in their hand. They are also prohibited from using their hands for passing the puck to their teammates. Although, it still may be possible in case they are in the so-called “defensive zone”. It is also prohibited to kick the puck into the opponent's goal as well as to bat the puck into the net with players’ hands.

Hockey is known to be an "off-side" game. It means that forward passes are allowed. The boards surrounding the ice rink allow keeping the puck in play, being used as tools for playing the puck. Players are permitted to the so-called "bodycheck" opponents into the boards. The linesmen, the outsides and the referees of the goal are known to be "in play", not causing any stoppage of the game when either the puck or the players are influenced into them.

In order to make the needed ice hockey drawing, the Ice Hockey solution can be used while working in the ConceptDraw DIAGRAM diagramming and drawing software. The pre-made samples and templates from this solution, and the stencil libraries with the vector objects, are perfect to be used by any ConceptDraw DIAGRAM user for drawing hockey diagrams, ice hockey-related illustrations and play schemes.

There are 2 stencil libraries containing 16 vector objects in the Ice Hockey solution.

Example 2: Ice Hockey Rink Dimensions

This diagram was created in ConceptDraw DIAGRAM using the "Ice Hockey Rinks" Library from the Ice Hockey Solution. An experienced user spent 30 minutes creating this sample.

A significant number of ice hockey terms are related to lines and zones on a hockey rink. All dimensions are standardized, but there are some different standards. This sample is a good illustration of this aspect of sports knowledge.

Example 4: Ice Hockey — Offside

This diagram was created in ConceptDraw DIAGRAM using the "Ice Hockey Rinks" and "Ice Hockey Positions" Libraries from the Ice Hockey Solution. An experienced user spent 5 minutes creating this sample.

"Offsides" is a very basic sports term, which can be very hard to explain to a novice. According to Wikipedia, "In ice hockey, a play is offside if a player on the attacking team enters the offensive zone before the puck, unless the puck is sent or carried there by a defending player. When an offside violation occurs, a linesman will stop play. A faceoff is then held at a neutral ice spot closest to the infraction to restart play."

The fundamental concepts in sports can be extremely difficult to convey without a drawing, that's why we included an Offsides Sample in the Hockey solution. Explaining with ConceptDraw in your playbook is easier than ever before!
