Peru or the Republic of Peru is a well-known country in the western part of South America. This place is bordered by other countries, such as Colombia and Ecuador in the north, Brazil in the east, Bolivia in the southeast and also the Pacific Ocean in the west, having Chile to the south from it. Peru is a very biodiverse country, which means it has a huge variety of life, having its habitats ranging from the arid plains of the Pacific coastal region to the peaks of the mountains, which are Andes mountains.

Each of the regions has an elected government, which is composed of a president as well as the council, serving the four-year terms. The governments plan the regional development, promote economic activities and manage public economic development. The province of Lima is administered by a city council.

The third region of Peru is the “selva”, which means “jungle”. It is basically a wide expanse of flat terrain covered by the rainforest of Amazon, extending to the east. Almost 60% of the country's area is located within this region, so it is the largest one in the whole Peru. Most of the Peruvian rivers originate in the peaks of the Andes. They, after, drain into one of three basins, which are the areas of land, where the precipitation collects and drains off into a common outlet. Those rivers that drain towards the Pacific Ocean are short and quite steep, flowing intermittently. The tributaries of the River of Amazon have a much larger flow. They are also longer and less steep where they exit the “sierra”. All rivers, draining into the Lake Titicaca are known to be short, but at the same time they have a large flow.
The longest rivers of Peru are the Maranon, the Ucayali, the Yavari, the Pulumayo, the Urubamba, the Amazon, the Huallaga and the Mantaro. The largest lake is Lake Titicaca, which is perfectly well known to be between Bolivia and Peru in the Andes. This river is also the largest in the whole South America. Talking about the water resources, the largest reservoirs are all in the coastal region of Peru. They are the Tinajones, the Poechos, the San Lorenzo as well as El Fraile one.
