How to Create a Genogram

Many specialists in a number of professions such as psychiatry, medicine, genetic science, psychology, and education use the visual analysis of hereditary factors and family relations to determine heritable trends of a family. Genograms are used to depict family behavior patterns and even to recognize some heritable afflictions. The ability to create a genogram with ConceptDraw DIAGRAM is provided in the Genogram Solution. It contains 4 libraries of scalable vector icons and enables a user quickly compose all-purposes easy-to-read genograms using standard symbols.

1. Open a new ConceptDraw DIAGRAM document.
2. Select the Genogram item in the Solutions panel.
3. Add the graphic elements to your design by dragging them from the needed library to the document page.

4. Organize objects using the Arrange&Size side panel along with Snap&Glue tools.

5. Use the set of text tools to add and format text. For instance, the Title tool will be helpful when creating a heading for your diagram. Use the predefined style for the heading — just select, place the text-box in the appropriate part of the drawing and start typing.

6. Use the Smart Connector tool to connect objects. Select the Tree Mode to connect objects automatically.

7. Finally, you can export your drawing as MS PowerPoint® and Adobe PDF files using the Export options provided in the File menu.
