Personal area (PAN) networks. Computer and Network Examples
A Personal area network (PAN) is a computer network that is used for data transmission between different personal devices (computers, telephones, digital devices, etc.) and for connecting to the higher level network and Internet. PANs can be wired with computer buses (USB and FireWire). A wireless personal area network (WPAN) can be made using the network technologies such as Bluetooth, IrDa, UWB, Z-Wave, ZigBee, Body Area Network. A personal area network handles the interconnection of IT devices at the surrounding of a single user. Generally, PAN contains from following such appliances: cordless mice and keyboards, cordless phone, Bluetooth handsets. This example was created in ConceptDraw DIAGRAM using the Computer and Networks Area of ConceptDraw Solution Park and shows the Personal area network.
Metropolitan area networks (MAN). Computer and Network Examples
Metropolitan Area Network combines local networks located within a city, and is based on high data rate compounds, implemented on the basis of fiber channels and other digital data transmission channels. Now, with the increasing number of network communities, wireless local area networks based on 802.11b standard are combined into a wireless metropolitan area network consisting of affordable antenna systems and consumer-grade wireless equipment using 802.11a and 802.11b standards.Diagramming tool - Amazon Web Services and Cloud Computing Diagrams
The AWS Architecture Diagrams solution includes icons, sample and templates for several Amazon Web Services products and resources, to be used when creating architecture diagrams. The icons are designed to be simple so that you can easily incorporate them in your diagrams and put them in your whitepapers, presentations, datasheets, posters or any technical material you like.Storage area networks (SAN). Computer and Network Examples
A Storage area network (SAN) is a dedicated network that provides access to data storage and operations only on the block level. SAN usually has own network of storage devices/elements and disk arrays that are connected with each other and to a remote data-sharing network. SANs are widely used for enhancing the storage devices (optical jukeboxes, disk arrays, tape libraries) that are accessible for networked servers. This example was created in ConceptDraw DIAGRAM using the Computer and Networks Area of ConceptDraw Solution Park. It shows the hybrid of Storage area network (SAN) and Network Attached Storage (NAS) technologies.
Flowchart Definition
Flowchart definition - A Flowchart is a graphically representation of the structure of process or system, algorithm or the step-by-step solution of the problem. The Flowchart describes the flow of data through an information processing systems and the parts of the flows. The flow is a set of the logic operations that meet the certain requirements.Star Network Topology

"The ideal telecommunication network has the following characteristics: broadband, multi-media, multi-point, multi-rate and economical implementation for a diversity of services (multi-services). The Broadband Integrated Services Digital Network (B-ISDN) intended to provide these characteristics. Asynchronous Transfer Mode (ATM) was promoted as a target technology for meeting these requirements" [Broadband networks. Wikipedia]
"Wireless broadband is technology that provides high-speed wireless Internet access or computer networking access over a wide area. ...
Wireless networks can feature data rates roughly equivalent to some wired networks, such as that of asymmetric digital subscriber line (ADSL) or a cable modem. Wireless networks can also be symmetrical, meaning the same rate in both directions (downstream and upstream), which is most commonly associated with fixed wireless networks. A fixed wireless network link is a stationary terrestrial wireless connection, which can support higher data rates for the same power as mobile or satellite systems.
Few wireless Internet service providers (WISPs) provide download speeds of over 100 Mbit/ s; most broadband wireless access (BWA) services are estimated to have a range of 50 km (31 mi) from a tower. Technologies used include LMDS and MMDS, as well as heavy use of the ISM bands and one particular access technology was standardized by IEEE 802.16, with products known as WiMAX." "A computer network or data network is a telecommunications network that allows computers to exchange data. In computer networks, networked computing devices (network nodes) pass data to each other along data connections. The connections (network links) between nodes are established using either cable media or wireless media. The best-known computer network is the Internet.
Network devices that originate, route and terminate the data are called network nodes. Nodes can include hosts such as servers and personal computers, as well as networking hardware. Two devices are said to be networked when a device is able to exchange information with another device." [Computer network. Wikipedia]
This computer communication network diagram example was created using the ConceptDraw PRO diagramming and vector drawing software extended with the Computer and Networks solution from the Computer and Networks area of ConceptDraw Solution Park.

"Physical topology refers to the placement of the network's various components, including device location and cable installation...
The shape of the cabling layout used to link devices is called the physical topology of the network. This refers to the layout of cabling, the locations of nodes, and the interconnections between the nodes and the cabling. The physical topology of a network is determined by the capabilities of the network access devices and media, the level of control or fault tolerance desired, and the cost associated with cabling or telecommunications circuits." "Satellite television is television programming delivered by the means of communications satellite and received by an outdoor antenna, usually a parabolic reflector generally referred to as a satellite dish, and as far as household usage is concerned, a satellite receiver either in the form of an external set-top box or a satellite tuner module built into a TV set. Satellite TV tuners are also available as a card or a USB peripheral to be attached to a personal computer. In many areas of the world satellite television provides a wide range of channels and services, often to areas that are not serviced by terrestrial or cable providers.
Direct-broadcast satellite television comes to the general public in two distinct flavors - analog and digital. This necessitates either having an analog satellite receiver or a digital satellite receiver. Analog satellite television is being replaced by digital satellite television and the latter is becoming available in a better quality known as high-definition television." [Satellite television. Wikipedia]

"Satellite Internet access is Internet access provided through communications satellites. ...
Satellite Internet generally relies on three primary components: a satellite in geostationary orbit (sometimes referred to as a geosynchronous Earth orbit, or GEO), a number of ground stations known as gateways that relay Internet data to and from the satellite via radio waves (microwave), and a VSAT (very-small-aperture terminal) dish antenna with a transceiver, located at the subscriber's premises. Other components of a satellite Internet system include a modem at the user end which links the user's network with the transceiver, and a centralized network operations center (NOC) for monitoring the entire system. Working in concert with a broadband gateway, the satellite operates a Star network topology where all network communication passes through the network's hub processor, which is at the center of the star. With this configuration, the number of remote VSATs that can be connected to the hub is virtually limitless." [Satellite Internet access. Wikipedia]

"A local area network (LAN) is a computer network that interconnects computers in a limited area such as a home, school, computer laboratory, or office building using network media. The defining characteristics of LANs, in contrast to wide area networks (WANs), include their smaller geographic area, and non-inclusion of leased telecommunication lines. Ethernet over twisted pair cabling, and Wi-Fi are the two most common technology standards currently used to build LANs." [Local area network. Wikipedia]
