How to Create a Timeline Diagram

A Timeline diagram presents events on a chronological scale and is a good way to represent a project’s progress. The project timeline is an important part of every project. It captures the main of what the project will accomplish and how it will be done. Making a project timeline is one of the most important skills a project manager needs have. The size and structure of a project timeline depend on the particular project. A project timeline can be highly detailed, with a number of tasks and sub-tasks, or very simple, listing only a few milestones and deadlines. However, a project timeline needs to contain the list of tasks to be completed, the dates on which the tasks need to be complete, the expected duration of each task and the relationships between tasks. A project timeline chart provides an easy-to-grasp visual depiction of the project, using horizontal bars to represent the duration of each task in the project. Making comprehensive, accurate timelines allows you getting every project off in the best way. Also, a Timeline diagram can be used to visualize time lapses between events, duration (such as lifetimes or wars), and the simultaneity or overlap of spans and events. Run ConceptDraw DIAGRAM.
Reveal the Timeline Diagram solution in the Solutions panel.
You can start with opening template, or with finding the suitable timeline sample.

Select the timeline and then use the Custom Properties to set the Start date and the Finish date. As well as enter the number of rows that are represented below the diagram.

Use the Action button menu to Show/Hide the rows below the diagram.

You can drag various elements from the library (milestones, events, today marker) and place them on the timeline. After entering the date, the event or the milestone will automatically adhere to the timeline.

Intervals with signature are placed in order on the rows below the timeline. The number of intervals corresponds to the number of rows.

Result: A Timeline diagram presents project’s events on a chronological scale. It is a good and clear way to visualize the sequence of the project steps.
