Chen Notation Model - Free Addition to ConceptDraw Solutions

In 1976 Dr. Peter Chen, then a professor at Massachusetts Institute of Technology, proposed a new entity-relationship model for database design. Dr. Chen’s entity-relationship model objective was designed to leverage the advantages of the three entity-data models (network model, relationship model, entity model) in use at the time. The entity-relationship model proposed by Dr.Chen is constructed using a more natural view of how the real world comprises entities and the relationships that exist with these identified entities. Dr.Chen’s model minimizes the semantic ambiguities present in the data models that were in use at the time. The addition to ConceptDraw Solution Park is a free item for current users of ConceptDraw PRO v11.

The entity-relationship model is comprised of a number of 2D representational shapes and some visual conventions to describe data and data structures. CS Odessa has released a free Chen Notation library and samples that are available for use with ConceptDraw PRO v11. This new Chen Notation solution can be downloaded from the Software Development area of  Solution Park located on the ConceptDraw web site. The Chen Notation Model is a popular standard and is widely used worldwide in database and software design.

ConceptDraw PRO is compatible with macOS and Windows. It is well-known for its ability to exchange documents with Microsoft Visio — the de facto standard in business graphics documents. ConceptDraw PRO can open and save documents that can be used by Visio users.
