Internal Medicine

Internal medicine is a field of medicine devoted to the study of etiology (in other words the causes of diseases), also pathogenesis (mechanisms of diseases) and clinical manifestations of a number of diseases of human internal organs, as well as their prevention, diagnosis and treatment with subsequent rehabilitation. Internal medicine is the most important part of clinical medicine, it studies a huge number of diseases, covers all systems of internal organs and includes large number of highly specialized units within this area — among them the cardiology that deals with diseases of cardiovascular system, pulmonology and endocrinology dedicated to diseases of respiratory system and endocrine system correspondingly, gastroenterology considering the problems of gastrointestinal tract and nephrology learning the problems of urinary system, hematology dealing with diseases of blood and hematopoietic organs, hepatology dedicated to treatment the liver diseases, rheumatology solving the problems of connective tissues, and many others. Due to the narrow specialization the units of internal medicine allow to deal much more effective with fairly complex diseases than the specialists in a general medicine.

Talking in details about the processes that occur in any area of internal medicine, when the doctor is faced with some problem of human internal organs, the basis of successful treatment is primarily a thorough examination of the patient, detailed studying of his complaints and signs of disease, as well as conducting additional analysis and surveys to detect accurately the disease and to make the correct diagnosis. Only after that, the doctor prescribes the appropriate treatment to cope effectively with existing disease, and this can be both traditional pharmacological treatment and non-traditional methods, non-drug methods, physiotherapy, spa treatment, etc.
