Biology

'There are no such things as applied sciences, only applications of science' — Louis Pasteur

Biology is one of the natural sciences that involves the study of living organisms and life itself. It includes studying different living organisms’ physical structures, chemical compositions, functions, evolution, and development.

Modern biology is known to be a vast field. It is composed of many different branches, recognizing the cell as the basic unit of life. At the same time, the genes may be recognized as the basic unit of heredity within biology.

All living organisms are known to be the open systems that survive by decreasing their local entropy in order to maintain a vital and stable condition. Such condition may be defined as homeostasis. The mentioned organisms can also easily transform their own energy.

There are known to be many sub-disciplines of biology. They all can be defined by the scale at which life is studied, the methods that can be used to study them and the kinds of organisms studied. Thus, molecular biology studies the complex interactions among biological molecules, the cellular one examines the basic building-block of all life which is the cell and physiology examines both the chemical and physical functions of organs, organ systems, and tissues.

Being involved in the study of biology, the ConceptDraw DIAGRAM diagramming and drawing software can be used and so Biology solution as its extension. The last-mentioned tool provides all the ConceptDraw DIAGRAM users with the pre-made biology-related samples and templates as well as the stencil libraries that contain many of the biological vector symbols.

In order to create educational and scientific designs in the field of biology as well as to visually explain some complex knowledge within such sub-disciplines of biology as biochemistry, microbiology, molecular and cell biology, genomics and proteomics, biotechnology and genetics, the Biology solution may be used by any ConceptDraw DIAGRAM user.

There are 3 libraries containing 97 biology symbols in the Biology solution.

Examples

There are a few samples that you see on this page which were created in the ConceptDraw DIAGRAM application by using the Biology solution. Some of the solution's capabilities as well as the professional results which you can achieve are all demonstrated here on this page.

All source documents are vector graphic documents which are always available for modifying, reviewing and/or converting to many different formats, such as MS PowerPoint, PDF file, MS Visio, and many other graphic ones from the ConceptDraw Solution Park or ConceptDraw STORE. The Biology solution is available to all ConceptDraw DIAGRAM users to get installed and used while working in the ConceptDraw DIAGRAM diagramming and drawing software.

Example 1: Biochemical Metabolic Pathway Map

This diagram was created in ConceptDraw DIAGRAM using the Biochemistry of Metabolism Library from the Biology Solution. An experienced user spent 5 minutes creating this sample.

This sample shows a Biochemical metabolic pathway map. Metabolic pathways are series of chemical reactions that occur within a cell. These pathways can combine to become a more comples structure - the metabolic network. Conceptdraw PRO is ideal for all situations, and can handle designs of any complexity.

Example 2: Biochemical Pathway Map — Key Metabolic Processes

This diagram was created in ConceptDraw DIAGRAM using the Biochemistry of Metabolism Library from the Biology Solution. An experienced user spent 10 minutes creating this sample.

Metabolic processes are the chemical reactions of metabolism that are organized into metabolic pathways and occur in all living organisms. This sample visually demonstrates the key metabolic processes. The color accents make this diagram bright, attractive and engaging.

Example 3: Biology Drawing — Catabolism Schematic

This diagram was created in ConceptDraw DIAGRAM using the Biochemistry of Metabolism Library from the Biology Solution. An experienced user spent 5 minutes creating this sample.

The metabolism is divided by the reactions of catabolism (breaking down organic matter and harvesting the energy) and anabolism (using the energy to construct proteins and nucleic acids). The sample here shows a catabolism schematic, but anabolism is just as simple to represent, using the powerful biological imagery solutions from ConceptDraw DIAGRAM

Example 4: Biological Image — Glucose Catabolism Pathways

This diagram was created in ConceptDraw DIAGRAM using the Carbohydrate Metabolism Library from the Biology Solution. An experienced user spent 10 minutes creating this sample.>

This sample shows the biological image of glucose catabolism pathways. Utilising a legend is a useful and convenient way to explain various designations for your diagram and to share any additional information.

Example 5: Biology Drawing — Glycolysis Overview

This diagram was created in ConceptDraw DIAGRAM using the Biochemistry of Metabolism and TCA Cycle Libraries from the Biology Solution. An experienced user spent 15 minutes creating this sample.

This sample illustrates glycolysis in detail - the process of glucose oxidation, in which from one glucose molecule is formed two molecules of pyruvic acid (pyruvate). This process is carried out for several enzymatic reactions. Glycolysis is one of three metabolic pathways of glucose oxidation that occur in living cells.

Example 6: Biology Drawing — TCA Cycle

This diagram was created in ConceptDraw DIAGRAM using the TCA Cycle Library from the Biology Solution. An experienced user spent 15 minutes creating this sample.

This sample shows the biochemical scheme of the TCA Cycle (tricarboxylic acid cycle, or citric acid cycle). The TCA Cycle is a series of chemical reactions - the key stage for all aerobic organisms. Biochemistry and Biotechnologies are constantly evolving, and require ever more complex drawings and schemes — this is where ConceptDraw DIAGRAM can help!

What I Need to Get Started

Both ConceptDraw DIAGRAM diagramming and drawing software and the Biology solution can help creating the learning materials you need. The Biology solution can be found in the Science and Education area of ConceptDraw STORE application that can be downloaded from this site. Make sure that both ConceptDraw DIAGRAM and ConceptDraw STORE applications are installed on your computer before you get started.

How to install

After ConceptDraw STORE and ConceptDraw DIAGRAM are downloaded and installed, you can install the Biology solution from the ConceptDraw STORE.

Start Using

To make sure that you are doing it all right, use the pre-designed symbols from the stencil libraries from the solution to make your drawings look smart and professional. Also, the pre-made examples from this solution can be used as drafts so your own drawings can be based on them. Using the samples, you can always change their structures, colors and data.
